Find Out Who You Are

Yesterday was my birthday-I am fast approaching 40, egads!! And I think that as the middle age years draw closer we begin to ponder who we are and where we come from. Several of my family members are in the middle of working on genealogy projects or sorting through boxes of "decades-old" pictures or some other family history task. The older I get, the more fascinated I am with who my ancestors are and how they got here. However, many of those who might be able to answer a lot of these questions are gone now. Don't wait until it's too late. Try and discover your roots while the older generations are still alive and thriving. Get online and learn about tracing your heritage. Go to the library and check out their genealogy section. Have a family reunion and go through the family pictures, find out where certain heirlooms came from. Try to not only find out names and dates, but personal information like what a particular ancestor did for a living, what activities were they involved with in their community, etc? It's a valuble gift to the future generations of your family to know who they are and where they come from. It helps them out on the path to finding out where they're going. Visit my Heritage Makers website in the links column at the right to see some beautiful ways to display the Heritage you have discovered.

Quote of the Day: "If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people." -Thich Nhat Hanh

Happy Birthday Grandpa Beck, wherever you are.....
